Global Game Jam 2019 entry

For our team, Global Game Jam has clearly become a tradition. A beautiful annual celebration of games, which unites creators from all around the world.

This year was no exception. As the both relatable and very abstract theme "What home means to you?" was unveiled we dug deep inside our brains for ideas. What came out of this after 48 (or so) hours was a multiplayer game where two to four players would need to rush with their trucks around the dry desert in order to raid the last standing water tower and bring some "living juice" home. All this to support your beloved home and family a few seconds further until the water eventually dries out.

At the beginning the game literally brought the Mad Max vibes to anyone who have heard of our idea. We thought the same. However, the game turned out far away from the apocalyptic classic. We took a different path in art direction when the inicial sketches naturally drifted towards the rural west setting. We liked such changes and it grew from there. Monster trucks, flags, farmsteads and even hillbilly screams finalised it as a rural American game.

One notable event during the game jam happened near the very end, when we were rushing with our keyboards on fire. On this crucial moment a guy comes to us and leans near one of the computer screens, while saying - You made THIS during the weekend? While being so into our current affairs of finishing I replied YES with a feeling of anger in my voice. But the guy kept asking the same question over and over again... It was frustrating at that moment, but after some time I reflected how awesome that was. A man literally was surprised by what we have achieved during the short time of the weekend. The moment of happiness in the life of the creator.

We have tested the game on our team and the four player mayhem felt quite fun and entertaining. We really hope that other players will feel the same and enjoy the game with their friends.

As a rule, this time we have again left some things and features out due to the harsh time limit of the game jam. However, we hope to add them in the future and complete the game experience, so stay tuned for that!

Thank you for reading and see you in the next update!
